Virgin Atlantic meeting demand for drinking chocolate

Virgin Atlantic meeting demand for drinking chocolate
12 Dec 2011

Virgin Atlantic has received such strong demand for hot drinking chocolate during night flights that it is having to increase its initial order of the product, just two weeks after introducing it.

The airline, which decided to offer the new service to help passengers sleep, has experienced much higher interest in the beverage from women than men.

Virgin spokeswoman Janine Doy said female travellers will always opt for hot chocolate when they see it on the menu, while men will often go for tea or coffee.

'Hot drinking chocolate is, by far, the most popular item of food that we've ever introduced onboard any of our aircraft,' she added.

Ms Doy went on to say that the 'sheer scale' of demand for the new product has 'taken everyone by surprise'.

As well as increasing the range of onboard services available to passengers, Virgin Atlantic will be expanding the network of destinations on offer next year with the launch of flights to Vancouver from London Heathrow on 24 May.
