British Museum to boast new gallery and exhibitions
13 Dec 2011

The British Museum has highlighted some of the experiences on offer to people planning breaks in London next year by providing details of a new gallery and exhibitions set to open at the attraction.

Due to begin on 26 January is Hajj: Journey to the Heart of Islam, the final display in a series focusing on spiritual voyages.

The show will run until 13 April 2012 and will examine the significance of the Hajj - the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca - and its importance as part of Islam.

Visitors to this exhibition might also be interested in seeing The Horse: Ancient Arabia to the Modern World, which will run from 24 May to 30 September next year.

Through a collection of loan objects and items from the British Museum collection, the display will focus on the influence of the horse in Middle Eastern history and how the animal has played a central role in human society throughout history.

The museum's 2012 BP exhibition will be Shakespeare: Staging the World (19 July to 25 November), which will aim to provide a unique insight into William Shakespeare and London in the 1590s and early 1600s.

People visiting London from June next year will be able to check out a new gallery showcasing the British Museum's collection of money.
