The city of Melbourne in Australia is set to host a number of special events in March 2012, including what is expected to be the world's longest lunch.

Various celebrations are being arranged to mark the 20th anniversary of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, which will run from 2 to 21 March.

On the first day of the festival, Melbourne and 29 other destinations across Victoria will aim to host a series of the world's longest lunches to celebrate the state's fresh produce and wines.

The opening weekend will also include a range of street feasts and 80 events available for less than A$50 (£32).

About 100 culinary experts from around the world will be heading to Australia to take part in the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, including Brett Graham, head chef of acclaimed London restaurant The Ledbury.

They will present masterclasses and demonstrations to reveal their gastronomic secrets and highlight the latest culinary trends.
