Texas visitors urged to try local cuisine
16 Dec 2011
Travellers planning a trip to Texas have been encouraged to experience the diversity and richness of the American state by sampling some local cuisine.
Diana Stevie, European tourism coordinator at Texas Tourism, said food in the region displays influences from various cultures and time periods.
She highlighted specific dishes such as a rack of lamb with cherry and chipotle sauce and wasabi mashed potato.
Ms Stevie also commented on the general sense of variety and the range of visitor experiences on offer in Texas owing to its sheer size.
'Texas is a massive state and has so much resulting diversity,' she said. 'It's an artistic state and we embrace individuality.'
Situated in the southern US on the border with Mexico, Texas is the country's second largest state by both area and population, behind Alaska and California respectively.
It is well served by international carriers, with flights available to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and other large cities.
