British Airways (BA) has announced that it is 'flying the flag for British tea' by making Twinings its exclusive tea supplier on all flights and in airport lounges around the world.

From 1 January 2012, the brand's English Breakfast tea variety will be introduced across all services and cabins.

According to BA, the blend could help combat the effects that flying at a high altitude can have on brewing and palates.

From April 2012, passengers in the airline's first class cabins will be offered beverages from Twinings' Tetra Mesh Loose Tea range, which includes options such as Tutti Fruitti Earl Grey, Mint Humbug, Jasmine Pearls, Red Berry Fool and Honeycomb Camomile.

Kate Thornton, head of product and service for BA, said: 'British Airways prides itself on excellence in service and therefore it is crucial that we consistently deliver high quality teas across our entire network.

'With its reputation for quality, Twinings is a natural choice for us.'

The airline pointed out that tea is the UK's most popular drink, with British people reportedly consuming more than 165m cups every day.
