Brits named 50 millionth visitors to New York in 2011

The Johnson family from Lichfield, England were this week presented with a 'golden ticket' to New York City after being officially named the 50 millionth visitors to the destination this year.
Craig and Lucy Johnson and their children are visiting the city to hold their wedding ceremony at the Top of the Rock observation deck at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.
The announcement that they were the 50 millionth visitors to the Big Apple in 2011 was made in Times Square, with screens and signs in the area displaying messages to celebrate the achievement.
New York City originally set itself the goal of attracting 50m tourists by 2015 before bringing the target date forward to the end of 2012, meaning it has reached the milestone a year early.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said: 'New York City's quality of life has contributed to this great success and we are confident we will sustain the success of our tourism industry in the months and years ahead.'
The UK is the leading overseas visitor market for the destination, with more than 1m British tourists expected by the end of 2011.
