Visit Nice for one of the world's biggest carnivals

Southern France could prove a popular holiday destination in February and March next year when it provides the setting for one of the world's biggest carnivals.
The 2012 Nice Carnival will get underway on 17 February and run until 4 March.
Visitors will be treated to an array of impressive sights, including processions featuring dozens of floats making their way to the Place Massena, which will be brought to life with colourful displays and decorations.
Parades will take place every day and night, while entertainment will be provided by more than 1,000 dancers and musicians from across the globe.
One of the most popular aspects of the Nice Carnival is the series of 'flower battles' that take place on the Promenade des Anglais, which see colourfully dressed characters tossing mimosas, gerberas and lilies into the crowd from floral-themed floats.
The theme of next year's event will be 'king of sport', to reflect the 2012 Olympics in London and what organisers describe as the 'sporting dynamism' of Nice.
