New online travel tool for Canada visitors

The Canadian Tourism Commission has announced that travellers planning trips to destinations such as Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary can now access a website providing 'real local knowledge and tips' via social media.

Explore Canada Like a Local is an online travel tool listing recommendations for events, attractions, bars, restaurants, shopping and other topics.

The site combines information and ideas offered by local users of the Foursquare, Yelp and Gowalla networks.

Described by the national tourism agency as a 'one-stop shop' for inspiration and advice, the travel tool allows holidaymakers to create their own itineraries and store them on smartphones for instant access.

Visitors can either develop tours based on their personal interests and particular destinations or access travel plans and lists created by other people.

Canada offers an array of attractions, activities and locations to suit all tastes and holiday ambitions, from ski resorts and national parks to busy modern cities and cultural hotspots.
