Visit 'beautiful' Japan during cherry blossom season
4 Jan 2012

Travellers visiting Japan during the first five months of the year will have the opportunity to see the country's famous cherry blossom, which is a 'stunningly beautiful' sight, according to the national tourist board.

Kylie Clark, PR and marketing manager for the Japan National Tourism Organisation, said the country's cherry trees come into bloom from as early as January in the Okinawa islands in the south and remain visible until May on the northernmost island of Hokkaido.

Most people visiting the nation to see this natural spectacle schedule their trip in late March or early April, when the bright blossom can be seen in Tokyo and Kyoto.

'Japan showered in pink petals is stunningly beautiful, but cherry blossom season is just one of many great times to visit Japan and appreciate the landscape and culture,' said Ms Clark.

The country is home to 29 national parks and boasts iconic natural landmarks such as Mount Fuji, which is visible from Tokyo on a clear day.
