Acclaimed operas to be staged in Edinburgh
10 Jan 2012

Culture vultures staying in hotels in Edinburgh next month will have the opportunity to see two famous operas in the city.

Giacomo Puccini's Madame Butterfly will be staged at the Scottish capital's Playhouse venue on 24 February, boasting features including elaborate sets and antique wedding kimonos from Japan.

Musical highlights of the show include the Humming Chorus, the Love Duet and the aria One Fine Day.

Another celebrated opera created by an Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata, will follow Madame Butterfly on to the Edinburgh Playhouse stage on 25 February.

The work is an adaptation of La Dame aux Camelias - a 19th century novel by French writer Alexandre Dumas Jr - and is famous for the drinking song Brindisi and lead character Violetta's aria Addio del Passato.

Coming to the same venue as the two opera productions next month is the comedy musical Avenue Q, which will have a short run from 7 to 11 February.
