Birmingham airport celebrates Which? Travel accolade

Birmingham airport is celebrating this month after receiving an accolade from Which? Travel, whose members named the base the leading large airport in the UK.

The West Midlands gateway achieved four out of five stars in six of the seven survey categories, which covered topics such as design, environment, navigation, delays, parking, catering and shopping.

More than 8,000 people took part in the research and were asked to assess airports' performance in each section based on their personal satisfaction and likelihood to recommend the base to other travellers.

Birmingham airport is pursuing a £200m investment programme and the accolade from Which? Travel shows that the initiative is already providing benefits for passengers, said chief executive officer Paul Kehoe.

'We know that Birmingham … offers a hassle-free alternative to some airports in the south-east for both getting to the airport and travelling through the terminal, so these results reinforce this,' he added.

Developments at the site since 2009 include a new international pier and a single large terminal comprising two buildings that were previously separate.
