New Steven Spielberg film set to boost Devon tourism

War Horse, the Steven Spielberg film that will be released in UK cinemas this week, is expected to provide a tourism boost for Devon, where part of the story is set.

The legendary Hollywood director spent several weeks on Dartmoor while making the film last year and was full of praise for the location.

Speaking to the Independent, he said: 'I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.'

War Horse is adapted from a novel by Michael Morpurgo telling the story of a young farm boy who signs up for military service during World War I in order to find his horse, Joey, after the animal is sold to the army and sent to France.

Visit Devon predicted that Dartmoor will become a 'must-see' destination this year as a result of the new movie, which features scenes filmed in locations such as Haytor, Combestone Tor, Ringmore Down and Venford Reservoir.

Travellers can reach south-west England by catching flights to Bristol, Exeter and other destinations in and around the region.
