UK travellers will have more access to the Far East this year following the launch of a new Korean Air service from London Gatwick to Seoul in South Korea.

The national carrier will operate three weekly flights on the route from 29 April 2012, with the Gatwick departures taking off from the airport's recently renovated north terminal.

Passengers will be able to choose from economy, business and first class cabins on Boeing 777 aircraft.

As well as providing direct access to South Korea and tourist attractions such as the caves of Danyang and Hwanseongul and beaches like Haeundae and Mallipo, the new service will allow connections to Korean Air's flights to Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland and other cities in the Far East and Australasia.

Guy Stephenson, Gatwick's chief commercial officer, said the airport was excited to welcome Korean Air and highlighted the importance of UK connections to the carrier's home country.

He added: 'We will work in partnership with Korean Air to help make this route a success and look forward to building a strong, long-term relationship with them.'
