Vienna exhibitions to celebrate Gustav Klimt
13 Jan 2012

Art enthusiasts can book hotels in Vienna this year and visit the city to be part of a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of celebrated artist Gustav Klimt.

The initiative will see more work by the modernist painter presented in Austria's capital than ever before.

One of the highlights will be a major new exhibition at the Museum of Applied Art/Contemporary Arts, running from 21 March to 15 July.

The display will feature Klimt's designs for a mosaic that was installed in the dining hall at the Stoclet palace in Brussels, specifically nine blueprints measuring about one by two metres from 1910 and 1911.

Vienna's Wien Museum will also be taking part in the celebrations by presenting its entire Klimt collection for the first time.

People visiting the attraction between 16 May and 16 September will be able to see approximately 400 works, including sketches, paintings and studies.

Other exhibitions will be opening at locations such as the Upper Belvedere and the Kunstlerhaus.
