Busch Gardens in Florida will this month unveil what the park describes as the first 'interactive animal hospital'.

Due to open on 23 January, the Animal Care Centre will allow guests to witness a range of treatments and procedures, from X-rays to complicated surgeries.

The complex will offer free admission to all visitors to Busch Gardens and will feature facilities including a nutrition centre, where experts will give several daily demonstrations on researching and providing animal diets.

Members of the public will have the chance to help with preparing and distributing food for some of the park's inhabitants.

The centre also features a treatment centre where visitors will be able to watch veterinarians carrying out check-ups, treatments and surgeries, as well as a clinical laboratory for staff to perform tests on samples collected from the animals.

Mike Boos, vice president of zoological operations at Busch Gardens, said the new attraction is part of the park's mission to boost guests' understanding of animals and the natural world.

'No other zoological facility can offer the unique, up-close experience that this new facility will provide,' he added.
