EasyJet welcomes Luton airport expansion plans
26 Jan 2012
EasyJet has welcomed the announcement of plans for expansion at Luton airport, claiming that the initiative will help secure the long-term future of the base.
The airport is intending to almost double the number of passengers it handles, from the approximately 10m travellers expected this year to up to 18m.
Welcoming the news, easyJet's commercial manager Hugh Aitken praised the local council for its 'strategic focus' on future development.
'The plan is an important step for the airport's long-term future which will enable us to continue making travel easier,' he added.
However, Mr Aitken also stressed the importance of improving the current operation of Luton airport, highlighting areas that require attention such as access to the base and the speed with which passengers are able to make their way through it.
EasyJet currently offers flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Edinburgh, Berlin, Istanbul and several other major cities across Europe from Luton.
