Emirates to help promote tourism in Mauritius
26 Jan 2012

Emirates has reached an agreement with the Mauritius tourism ministry that will see the airline promote the island nation to travellers around the world.

A series of joint activities and initiatives will be launched to boost the profile of the destination in the various international regions served by Emirates flights.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Dubai, Majid Al Mualla, the carrier's senior vice president of commercial operations for west Asia and the Indian Ocean, said Mauritius is a 'great product' that makes an important contribution to the company's network.

'We strongly believe in its potential and our regular increases in frequencies on this route demonstrate that our promotion strategy is the right one and is bringing concrete results,' he added.

The deal was welcomed by Michael Sik Yuen, Mauritius' tourism and leisure minister, who said the island destination is constantly improving its visitor experience and now has a wide portfolio of offerings including golf, cruising, shopping and inland tourism.

Emirates currently operates 11 weekly flights to Mauritius from its hub in Dubai.
