Rising visitor numbers for Korea
27 Jan 2012
The Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) has announced that the country saw a year-on-year increase in visitors from around the world in 2011.
Some 104,781 Britons travelled to the Asian nation, marking a 7.3% increase from the 97,519 recorded in 2010.
Global arrivals climbed by 11.3% year-on-year to 9.8m and are expected to rise further in 2012 to surpass 11m.
This year has started positively for South Korea's tourism industry, with the KTO London office citing factors such as more media exposure for the country and a wider range of products available to consumers as key contributors to the growth.
Unesco World Heritage sites have also helped boost the nation's profile, along with Jeju Island's recent success in the campaign to find the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
South Korea will be welcoming travellers from across the globe when it hosts some major events over the coming year, including the Formula One grand prix in Yeongam on 14 October.
