Abu Dhabi set to expand cultural offerings
30 Jan 2012

Plans have been announced for some new cultural institutions that will boost the range of experiences on offer to travellers visiting Abu Dhabi over the coming years.

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has confirmed the opening dates for three new attractions - the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which are due to begin welcoming guests in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively.

The Louvre complex will showcase paintings, sculptures and other artworks from a range of civilisations and cultures, while the Guggenheim museum will focus on contemporary art and culture with a global perspective.

Zayed National Museum will tell the story of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and also explore the history and culture of the United Arab Emirates.

TDIC, the organisation behind the Saadiyat Island development, devised the timeline for the launch of the new attractions in coordination with Agence France Museums, the British Museum in London and the Solomon R Guggenheim Foundation.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the company, said: 'Saadiyat Cultural District will create a cultural destination that will repeatedly attract visitors from the world of arts and culture.'
