Travellers 'shouldn't believe every review they read online'
3 Feb 2012
Travellers planning to look at some consumer review websites before booking hotels, flights and other holiday products have been advised to take a cautious approach to some of the things they read online.
Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, warned that all forums will feature contributions from 'unscrupulous' individuals with an agenda or 'an axe to grind'.
However, she also stressed that many reviews will be from people who simply want to give an honest and fair account of their experiences.
Ms Livingston advised that the best approach is for travellers to take everything they read into account and make a conclusion based on the spread of opinion.
It is also important for people planning holidays to consider their own interests and make arrangements that suit their needs, she noted.
The travelmagazine.net editor added: 'One bad review where there are a handful of good ones does not mean that place should be avoided - and vice versa.'
