Liverpool JLA aims to become region's airport of choice
7 Feb 2012

Liverpool John Lennon airport (JLA) has said it aims to become the number one choice for travellers catching flights from north-west England this year, with a range of improvements set to boost the passenger experience at the base.

Last year, JLA handled 230,000 more travellers than in 2010, marking an increase of 4.5%.

Overall, 5.3m people travelled through the airport, making 2011 the third busiest year on record, not far from the levels recorded in 2008.

The summer season made a strong contribution to the positive figures, with over 3.6m passengers flying to and from Liverpool between April and October.

Craig Richmond, chief executive of operating company Peel Airports, said the range of low-cost flights available has also ensured that consumers are still able to travel despite economic difficulties.

Looking forward, Mr Richmond said 2012 is set to be a year of consolidation.

'Work to improve passenger facilities and standards of customer service will continue as we look to make this the airport of choice for the region's travellers,' he added.

Liverpool JLA hosts services operated by carriers including easyJet, Flybe and KLM.
