Major arts campaign underway in Los Angeles

Discover the Arts, the largest and longest-running arts campaign in Los Angeles, has returned for its fourth outing in the city.

Due to run until 30 April 2012, the initiative will include a range of events and activities, as well as up to 50% off gift items and admission to various sites and institutions.

Attractions taking part in Discover the Arts this year include the Aquarium of the Pacific, the California Science Center, the Hollywood Museum and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Mark Liberman, president and chief executive of local tourism association LA INC, said the campaign's definition of the arts encompasses a range of topics and subject areas, including automobiles, gardens and even dinosaurs.

'Once people experience a play at a small neighborhood theatre, a grand opera or symphony performance, or an engaging art exhibition, we're confident they'll return throughout the year and bring their family and friends,' he added.

Travellers interested in visiting the United States' west coast can catch flights to Los Angeles with carriers such as Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines and British Airways.
