The State Historical Museum in Moscow has launched a new exhibition showcasing items made of gold or decorated with the precious metal.
Gold: Metal of Gods and King of Metals opened on 27 January and will run until 31 December 2012.
The display features a range of historical and cultural artefacts from the institution's collection, including icons and books in gold mountings, church utensils, marriage crowns, Catholic chalices and other objects associated with religious worship.
Another part of the show looks at the ways in which gold was used by tsars and other rulers to demonstrate their power.
Among the highlights to look out for is a selection of enamel portraits of Peter I, gold rings and snuffboxes, glass goblets, clocks, watches and cigar cases.
The exhibition also includes samples of bronze pieces created by some of the finest craftsmen and companies from Russia and the rest of Europe.
