Brits to get more for their money on trips this month

Britons going abroad for half-term breaks this month and on other trips in the near future are likely to be 'quids in' thanks to recent exchange rate trends, according to Post Office Travel Money.

Research by the company found that sterling has strengthened against all of Europe's main currencies recently, with the pound hitting a 15-month high against the euro in January.

This trend means Britons visiting the continent could get almost 11% more for their money than at this time last year.

Looking at specific destinations, Post Office Travel Money found that the biggest improvements in the value of the pound have occurred in eastern European cities such as Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw and Prague.

Spain was highlighted as the most affordable option for travellers looking for a sun holiday in Europe, with current resort prices in the country 3% lower than last year.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said exchange rates can make a big difference to the cost of a break and encouraged consumers to compare currencies and resort costs before booking.

She added: 'Spain remains the nation's favourite destination and last year attracted almost 10% more holidaymakers from the UK - which means that we account for almost one quarter of all tourists to the country.'
