Join in with messy celebrations in Bangkok
9 Feb 2012
Travellers staying in hotels in Bangkok in April will have the opportunity to join in with some memorable celebrations in Thailand's capital city.
The Songkran Festival - which marks the Buddhist new year - will take place in the destination from 10 to 15 April 2012.
One of the most popular parts of the event is the tradition of revellers soaking each other in water along Khao San Road and other areas in the centre of the city.
The fun begins with a few light sprinkles and splashes but quickly escalates into full-blown aquatic battles featuring buckets, pistols and even water trucks.
Many other experiences are available in Bangkok during the Songkran Festival, such as sampling Thai food and enjoying cultural performances at Nagaraphirom Park and visiting royal temples like Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Pho and Wat Arun.
Buddhist new year festivities are held in several popular travel destinations in Thailand, including Chiang Mai and Phuket.
