Holidays 'key' for families

Holidays are an important part of life for most families because they provide an opportunity to leave the stress and responsibility of daily life behind, a travel journalist has said.
James Ellis described the breaks that families take together as a 'key time' that many people look forward to throughout the year.
He highlighted a number of factors that parents are likely to consider when planning a trip, including value for money and ways to make flights and other aspects of the journey as simple as possible.
'What families really need when they go away is for that experience to be as stress-free as possible,' said Mr Ellis.
'It's really important that airports get their family-friendly facilities right.'
Offering some advice for parents facing the prospect of keeping kids entertained during flights, the travel journalist recommended taking games and items they are familiar with from home.
Taking something to drink can also help as swallowing will help reduce the effects of pressure on children's ears.
