Tourism Alliance: UK cottage holidays offer good value
22 Feb 2012

Brits looking for a holiday option in the UK that offers good value for money have been encouraged to consider renting a self-catering cottage.

Kurt Janson, policy director at industry group the Tourism Alliance, said initial figures indicate a 14% increase in domestic trips in Britain last year.

A large part of this rise occurred in the camping, caravanning and self-catering cottage holiday sectors, Mr Janson revealed.

'[This is] because they are a good value option for people in the current economic climate,' he added.

'We have a tourism industry … [that can] provide people with anything they could possibly want on holiday.'

Commenting on prospects for travel within Britain over the coming year, Mr Janson said the Tourism Alliance expects strong figures and performance during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee but is not so sure about the Olympic Games, which will take place in London and other locations in the summer.

Many people are set to travel around the UK to experience the Olympics, while others will be going abroad to get away from the event.
