Emirates: Middle Eastern airlines have huge growth potential
13 Mar 2012

A high-ranking Emirates executive has commented on the strong position of Middle Eastern airlines in the modern aviation sector, noting that they have substantial scope for expansion in the coming years.

Thierry Antinori, the Dubai-based carrier's executive vice-president of passenger sales worldwide, told Reuters that operators such as Emirates and Etihad Airways have the potential to assume a commanding position on the global industry map.

He said Middle Eastern airlines' geographical position and the quality of their products and networks gives them a good chance of enjoying further success in future.

'I even consider the next years as an opportunity for Emirates to increase the gap with some of our competitors, because we are just looking at what the customer wants,' added Mr Antinori.

Following Etihad's recent purchase of a stake in Air Berlin, the Emirates executive said his company prefers to rely on its own product offerings and invest in new aircraft rather than other carriers.
