As well as providing the usual array of street parties, music concerts, parades and family fun, this year's Queenstown Winter Festival will host the New Zealand premiere of animated movie Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.

It has been announced that the Air New Zealand-sponsored event will take place at the Reading Cinemas complex and Queenstown Mall on 23 June, providing the highlight of the festival's family fun day.

Reading Cinemas manager Rebekah Moore said the venue was 'absolutely thrilled' to have the opportunity to host the premiere.

'It's going to be a very special night and we're looking forward to bringing a little bit of Hollywood to town and creating a "cool" atmosphere,' she added.

The event will take place on the first Saturday of the Queenstown Winter Festival, which will run from 22 June to 1 July 2012.

Highlights of this year's programme include the Air New Zealand Mountain Mayhem skiing event at Coronet Peak on 30 June and the National Cyclocross Championship at Remarkables Park on 1 July.
