Young travellers staying in hotels in Barcelona this year should take the opportunity to explore the city's vibrant nightlife scene, according to a travel journalist and author who has written for the Telegraph and other well-known publications.

Anna Nicholas said the popular destination on Spain's north-east coast is 'undoubtedly' a party town.

She highlighted a number of attractions and experiences that appeal to people with various interests and passions.

'[Barcelona] has beaches, nightlife, fantastic restaurants and shops, and quirky, fun and eccentric districts,' said Ms Nicholas.

'It's a city that never sleeps and embraces fiestas and events all year round.'

As well as providing plenty of fun and entertainment for younger visitors, the destination is home to cultural sites and landmarks that appeal to older people, such as the Sagrada Familia church.

Families visiting Barcelona can take a cable car ride and enjoy panoramic views of the city or head to locations such as Parc Guell and the CosmoCaixa science museum.
