500 years' worth of Italian art on show in Glasgow

Hotels in Glasgow could prove a popular option among art enthusiasts over the coming months, with a major exhibition of masterpieces from Italy coming to the city this week.
Essence of Beauty: 500 Years of Italian Art will open at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Friday (6 April) and will run until 12 August.
The presentation of notable pieces from Glasgow's collection of Italian paintings has been arranged to mark the publication of a new scholarly catalogue covering the entire archive.
Visitors to the Kelvingrove gallery will be able to see examples of work by the likes of Bellini, Titian, Rosa and Botticelli.
Alongside paintings, the show will feature decorative art, armour, sculpture, Venetian glass and rare ceramics dating from the late 14th century onwards.
Discussing Glasgow Museums' collection of Italian artworks, Peter Humfrey, professor of art history at the University of St Andrews, said: 'Although still too little-known, it is among the most impressive of any in the UK, both for its quality and for its chronological range.'
