Titanic Belfast museum now open
4 Apr 2012

People planning a break in Northern Ireland this year can learn more about one of the worst maritime disasters in history at the Titanic Belfast museum.

The attraction had its official opening last weekend, marking the 100th anniversary of the launch of the Titanic.

It is situated in a striking building clad in several thousand three-dimensional plates, which combine to create a crystalline appearance.

Inside, visitors can explore nine galleries with a range of special effects, reconstructions and interactive features providing new perspectives on the story of the ocean liner.

Guests can learn about the conception of the Titanic in Belfast in the early 1900s, the construction and launch of the ship, its now infamous maiden voyage and the aftermath of the sinking.

One of the highlights of the museum is a gallery that showcases video footage of the remains of the ship and includes interactive learning pods providing information about the discovery of the wreckage in 1985.
