Los Angeles expecting record 45m visitors in 2012

The Los Angeles tourist board has predicted that the city could set a new record this year by welcoming nearly 45m visitors.

With approximately 43m people currently visiting LA every year, the destination ranks third in the United States tourism industry as a whole, behind Orlando and New York City.

As part of its efforts to attract more guests in 2012, the California city has changed the name of its official convention and visitors bureau from LA INC. to the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board.

The move is intended to boost the destination's profile among international leisure travellers and also help it to capture more of the meetings and conventions markets.

Mark Liberman, president and chief executive of Los Angeles Tourism, said: 'Our former name, LA INC., did not reference the industry that we serve, nor did it clearly delineate our Los Angeles geography to our growing number of international visitors.'

Travellers can catch flights to Los Angeles with major carriers such as Delta, British Airways and American Airlines to take in the city's sights and explore famous areas like Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
