Singapore Airlines marks 45 years of flights to Australia

Singapore Airlines this week hosted a special celebration to mark the 45th anniversary of its operations in Australia.
The carrier introduced inaugural flights to Sydney and Perth in April 1967, when the company was known as Malaysia-Singapore Airlines.
Today, it also operates routes to destinations including Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns in Australia, providing a range of connection options for British travellers starting journeys to the region by catching flights to Singapore.
Subhas Menon, Singapore Airlines' regional vice president in the south-west Pacific, said the launch of Australian services marked a turning point for the company in its efforts to become a major international carrier.
'Connecting the world to Australia has been at the forefront of our growth on the global stage,' he added.
'This is an achievement we are immensely proud of.'
The airline competes with several other major carriers providing links to the popular holiday country, such as Qantas, British Airways, Emirates and Cathay Pacific.
