Frankfurt festival to celebrate apple wine
10 Apr 2012
Travellers taking city breaks in Frankfurt this summer might have the opportunity to attend a festival celebrating what the local tourist board describes as the city's most popular beverage - apple wine.
Known by many names, including 'ebbelwoi', 'stoffche' and 'appler', the drink is the focus of an event that will be returning from 10 to 19 August 2012.
Many pubs and taverns in Frankfurt still make their own apple wine, which is served in a stoneware jug called a 'bembel' and drunk from a ribbed glass.
It is a popular local tradition to enjoy the beverage during the summer while relaxing in pub gardens and courtyards.
Holidaymakers visiting Frankfurt during trips to Germany in August can sample several varieties of apple wine during the festival, as well as other distinctive blends and cocktails.
There will also be plenty of local food on offer and a fringe entertainment and culture programme to enjoy.
