P&O Cruises launches Papua New Guinea voyages
17 Apr 2012

P&O Cruises has launched its first programme dedicated to Papua New Guinea, with the destination set to feature in two itineraries.

The ship Pacific Dawn will sail from Brisbane in Australia to Milne Bay, taking guests to the local capital Alotau and the white-sand beaches of Doini Island.

Travellers will also have the opportunity to explore the culture of the Trobriand Islands, which are located along the bay's northern straits.

P&O Cruises' maiden voyage to the destination is due to take place in October 2013, coinciding with the Canoe and Kundu Festival, during which local communities compete in races and costume displays.

Ann Sherry, chief executive of Carnival Australia, which operates the cruise line, said: 'Papua New Guinea is one of the most remote and untouched corners of the world - it's so close to Australia geographically, but a million miles away in terms of culture and scenery.'

The new voyages will be part of P&O Cruises' 2013-14 programme in Australia, which will encompass a total of 73 departures on 22 different itineraries from Brisbane and Sydney.
