Travellers interested in visiting Israel will be able to catch flights to Tel Aviv from Manchester with easyJet later this year.

The airline has announced a twice-weekly, year-round service to the Middle Eastern nation's second largest city due to take off on 1 November.

EasyJet described Tel Aviv as one of the region's most cosmopolitan cities, with a growing cultural scene, beaches and convenient access to Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

The carrier launched its first link to the destination from London Luton airport in 2009 and has carried some 270,000 passengers on the route.

Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK commercial manager, said the new connection will strengthen the already solid links between Tel Aviv and north-west England, with a large Jewish community based in Manchester and nearby areas.

She added: 'The service will offer great opportunities for both British and Israeli travellers wishing to travel between two of the world's great cities.'

EasyJet also operates flights to Berlin, Amsterdam, Athens and several other popular destinations from Manchester.
