See Dutch Flowers at Amsterdam Schiphol
19 Apr 2012

People catching flights to Amsterdam over the coming months will be able to see the current exhibition at the Rijksmuseum annex at Schiphol airport.

The Dutch Flowers display opened last month and will continue until 25 June 2012, providing an insight into a characteristic aspect of life in the Netherlands.

Nine paintings of flowers feature in the show, all of which were once used to decorate the homes of affluent individuals in the 17th century.

The artworks serve as a representation of a time when cut flowers were valuable luxuries and only the richest people could have them in their homes and gardens.

Travellers will find the Rijksmuseum Schiphol in the renovated Holland Boulevard area, beyond the airport's passport control desks between piers E and F.

As well as hosting temporary displays, the free gallery houses a permanent exhibition of masterpieces by Dutch masters from the collection of the Rijksmuseum, which is situated on Jan Luijkenstraat in the centre of Amsterdam.
