Brits 'to have more holiday cash in Europe this year'
24 Apr 2012
British travellers heading to Europe this summer will have up to 14% more foreign money in their pockets following an increase in the value of sterling, according to a new Post Office report.
People visiting Turkey, for example, will have the equivalent of £60 more to spend than last year for every £500 they exchange into lira.
Post Office Travel Money also revealed the cheapest countries for UK holidaymakers based on the cost of a selection of items, with Bulgaria taking top spot from Spain, which slid to fourth place in the list.
Turkey and Portugal were ranked the second and third most affordable destinations, while Cyprus, Dubai, Malta and Corfu also featured in the top ten.
Andrew Brown, head of Post Office Travel Money, advised consumers to do some research on resort prices and currency exchange rates before booking their holidays.
'It is also worth considering how you plan to spend your holiday cash,' he added.
