Cape Town gathers quarter of a million Facebook fans

Cape Town Tourism has revealed that its Facebook page now boasts more than a quarter of a million fans.
People planning a trip to the capital of South Africa's Western Cape province can visit the online platform to learn more about the destination through photographs, videos and experiences shared by residents and previous visitors.
The local tourist board uses the page to offer advice about the activities and attractions on offer in Cape Town and provide information about promotions and other topics.
Skye Grove, the agency's PR and communications manager, said social media sites have become an important and trusted source of information for travellers.
She added: 'Cape Town Tourism is … committed to being a leading voice in e-marketing and social media for the tourism industry in South Africa.'
Many destinations now have a presence on Facebook, including Australia, Berlin and New York City, all of which have more than 1m fans.
