Olympics to bring 'festival atmosphere' to London
24 Apr 2012
Visitors staying in hotels in London during the 2012 Olympic Games have been told they can look forward to a 'festival atmosphere' in the city.
In the run-up to the summer event, local tourism agency London & Partners commissioned a YouGov survey which suggested that the capital will 'inspire the world' over the next four months.
One in four people in sampled nations said the prospect of the Olympics has encouraged them to start swimming and one in five are considering taking up cycling this year.
Of the respondents planning a trip to London, nearly six in ten said they intend to visit outdoor spaces such as squares and parks, while more than 40% of tourists will stop off at famous shopping locations such as Harrods, Selfridges and Oxford Street.
Iain Edmondson of London & Partners said: 'During the Games, there will be a festival atmosphere filling the streets of London with numerous opportunities for the public to experience the spirit of the Games, even if they don't have tickets.'
Nearly a quarter (23%) of respondents to the YouGov survey said they want to see London's Olympic Stadium, while 18% would like to visit the site of the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
