Travel firms 'must innovate to guarantee growth'

Travel firms 'must innovate to guarantee growth'

Travel firms have been encouraged to innovate in order to remain competitive over the coming years.

Speaking at the World Travel Market (WTM) Vision conference in London, Caroline Bremner of research firm Euromonitor International said growth in the industry is likely to be flat for the next five years.

Companies are therefore expected to be locked in fierce competition for shares of the market.

Among the attendees at the conference was easyJet UK director Paul Simmons, who described the business environment as 'difficult but not impossible'.

'We need to make sure people are stimulated and want to travel,' he added.

Simon Press, Reed Travel Exhibitions' director of the WTM, welcomed the analysis of the Euromonitor International study and also said it was good to hear the conversations and debate triggered by the research.

Speaking about the outlook for the sector in the next five years, Mr Press commented: 'Travel companies will not only have to compete but innovate if they are to grow successfully.'
