Bloggers recruited to promote Queensland

Ten international bloggers with a combined audience of some 2.5m readers are to be sent to Australia to promote Queensland.

The writers, who hail from Canada, the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Germany and the UK, were picked from 767 entrants as part of a promotion by the state's tourist board.

In June this year, they will travel to Queensland to spend five days with Darren Rowse, the number one blogger in his home country.

The ten winners represent a number of different subject areas, regularly writing about topics ranging from motherhood, food and lifestyle to photography, travel and diving.

Anthony Hayes, Tourism Queensland's chief executive officer, said the bloggers will travel to the region between 5 and 10 June to take part in training sessions and enjoy activities such as encountering native wildlife and trying local cuisine.

'They will also sail and snorkel the [Great Barrier] Reef, visit the World Heritage-listed Daintree rainforest and explore the Mossman river with an indigenous guide, to name a few experiences,' he added.

Among the group are Britons Stuart Flatt and Jackie Hutchings, who will share accounts of the trip on their Average Joe's and Scubadviser blogs.
