Golfers encouraged to visit Ireland

People with a passion for golf have been invited to pay a visit to Ireland to make the most of some of the courses on offer there.

The national tourist board highlighted the country's strong associations with the sport, with two of the four reigning Major champions - US Open titleholder Rory McIlroy and Open Championship winner Darren Clarke - hailing from Ireland.

To build on this trend, Tourism Ireland has launched discount deals and special offers at courses such as Royal Portrush, which will host this year's Irish Open from 28 June to 1 July.

Promotions are also available at the Malone and Belvoir Park courses, which are reportedly two of McIlroy's favourite playing venues in Northern Ireland.

Sofia Hansson, business and sports travel executive at the tourism agency, said one of the 'beauties' of playing golf in the country is that all sorts of people can enjoy themselves at affordable prices.

'While people may know all about the likes of Royal Portrush, the K Club and Royal County Down, there are other clubs that are just waiting to be discovered in some simply stunning locations,' she added.
