Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece on show in Paris
1 May 2012
Seeing an artwork described by the Louvre as Leonardo da Vinci's 'ultimate masterpiece' will be among the experiences on offer to people staying in hotels in Paris over the coming months.
The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne will be on display at the famous museum in France's capital city until 25 June.
Recently restored, the painting dates back to 1501, when it was first mentioned in Italian Renaissance figure Isabella d'Este's correspondence, and was left unfinished when Leonardo died in 1519.
The piece is on display at the Louvre alongside a selection of compositional sketches, preparatory drawings, landscape studies and a cartoon from London's National Gallery.
Visitors can also see other paintings by the legendary artist that illustrate how the Saint Anne represents the culmination of his various explorations and experiments.
Another exhibition coming to the Louvre this year will showcase drawings and other works on paper by Gerhard Richter.
The display will run from 7 June to 17 September.
