1 May 2012
Abu Dhabi hotels are proving a popular option among British travellers this year, with the UK remaining the destination's top source market in the first quarter of 2012.
More than 37,000 Britons stayed in the emirate's properties between January and March, spending some 159,216 nights.
Abu Dhabi is home to 130 hotels and apartments that welcomed nearly 595,000 guests in the first three months of 2012.
The figure marked an increase of 17% on the same period of the previous year, while overall guest nights climbed by 10% to reach 1.725m.
Travellers visiting the destination during the first quarter of this year stayed for an average of 2.9 nights.
Mubarak Al Muhairi, director general of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, said the local industry's main focus is to encourage people to take longer breaks and discover some of the various attractions and activities on offer.
'We are working hard on a trade engagement policy to improve distribution and dissemination of this message,' he added.
