Pride events coming to New York in June and July

New York City will host a number of events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community over the coming months.
Nearly a year after the passage of same-sex marriage laws in the city, June and July will offer a number of memorable experiences for visitors, including the Heritage of Pride festival in Manhattan.
Highlights of the programme will include a rally on 16 June featuring performances and motivational talks, which will be free and open to the public.
Also open to all is PrideFest, an annual LGBT street fair that brings fun and colourful celebrations to Hudson Street between Abingdon Square and West 14th Street on 24 June.
The 2012 Bronx Pride Festival, which is tentatively scheduled for 21 July, will bring plenty of entertainment and events including a health fair to Crotona Park.
Commenting on New York's offerings for the LGBT community this summer, NYC & Company chief executive George Fertitta said: 'With last year's passage of same-sex marriage, there's never been a better time to experience the city's unique energy and diversity through two months of LGBT celebrations.'
