Travellers invited to explore Queensland's indigenous culture
9 May 2012
Travellers planning a trip to Australia have been encouraged to follow in the footsteps of Griff Rhys Jones by exploring the indigenous cultures of Queensland.
The state's tourism agency highlighted events such as the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair, which will return from 17 to 19 August this year.
Described as a blend of art and celebration, the event is the only fair in Australia that showcases and sells art by Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Cairns also serves as the starting point for a number of tour routes that provide an insight into indigenous culture and history, such as the Bama Way, which runs through lower Cape York.
The trip gives guests the opportunity to explore coastal mangroves, rainforest, hilltop savannah and other impressive settings.
Other locations that travellers can visit during a tour of Queensland include Cooya Beach, where visitors can learn more about local fishing and hunting practices.
