Glasgow arts scene 'vibrant'

Glasgow arts scene 'vibrant'
10 May 2012

People staying in hotels in Glasgow this year have been encouraged to explore local culture and creativity.

Amy Riddell, a spokesperson for the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, pointed out that the destination was named European City of Culture in 1990 and now has a 'vibrant' arts scene.

'This has been further reinforced by Glasgow being awarded the accolade of Unesco City of Music and appointed to its Creative Cities Network,' she added.

Ms Riddell also pointed out that the location is home to organisations such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the National Theatre of Scotland and the Scottish Opera, and has associations with Turner Prize-winning artists like Martin Creed, Richard Wright and Douglas Gordon.

Events on offer to culture vultures visiting the city this year include an exhibition exploring 500 years of Italian art at the Kelvingrove gallery, which will run until 12 August.

Visitors can see paintings by the likes of Bellini, Titian and Signorelli in the display.
