Royal visit to showcase Canada

Royal visit to showcase Canada
16 May 2012

A number of locations in Canada will enjoy a boost in profile this month when they play host to Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, who are more formally known as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Between 20 and 23 May, the pair will visit four communities in three Canadian provinces.

They will begin their tour in New Brunswick before heading to Toronto and Regina in Saskatchewan.

The trip, which is part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, was described by James Moore, minister of Canadian heritage and official languages, as a rare occasion.

He noted that the last time the country marked the 60th anniversary of a reigning monarch's coronation was for Queen Victoria in 1897.

'We welcome the royal couple and look forward to showing them some of the best of what Canada has to offer,' added Mr Moore.

One of the highlights of the visit will be a Victoria Day fireworks display on 21 May.
